Beauty tips for travellers

Chances are you won’t get a haircut for months so book a last-minute appointment. If possible, leave your hair long. It’s much easier to manage and you can tie it up when it gets too hot.

Blessed with curls? Find out how to combat frizzy hair here.

2. Buy a good moisturiser

A good moisturiser is essential! Buy one that’s lightweight, easily absorbed and has a high SPF. We loved NIVEA Essentials day cream – perfect for throwing in the backpack and it won’t leave your face shiny.

3. Ditch the foundation

You might think you can’t live without it but foundation is a waste of time when you’re jumping into the ocean, rolling around in the sand and hiking up to Machu Picchu.

Instead go for Tea Tree Oil Facial Blotting Tissues. Not only do they combat shiny skin, they’ll help control blemishes and leave your skin looking fresh.

4. Invest in a Lush shampoo bar

Shampoo and conditioner is easy to buy when you’re away but lots of travellers find Lush shampoo bars useful. They lasts for ages and are great for taking on treks as they double up as soap.

5. Get an eyeliner with built-in sharpener

Nothing’s more annoying than a blunt eyeliner pencil when you don’t have a sharpener. So buy one with a built-in sharpener in the lid like this Clarins Eyeliner Pencil.

6. Leave nail polish at home

Nail polish chips too easily – especially when you’re in and out of the sea. Instead, keep nails short and sheen. It will save you heaps of time and effort.

7. Keep your eyebrows trim

Looking fresh-faced is hard when your eyebrows are out on control so buy a pair of small tweezers. Little and often is the key here – try and do them every few days.

8. Drink lots of water

Late nights and too much alcohol can leave your skin looking dull and lifeless so drink lots of water to keep hydrated. Aim for 2 liters per day – more if your on the beach or in humid conditions.

How to combat frizzy hair while travelling

[ 1 ] December 10, 2010

Planning a round-the-world trip? The last thing you should be thinking about is your hair, but if you’re like Monica from Friends, even the thought of humid conditions can send your locks into a spin.

Fortunately for us, there’s a miracle cure that will leave locks soft, sleek and frizz-free for up to 4 months! The Keratin Brazilian Blow Dry is causing waves on the hairdressing circuits for all the right reasons. And i was lucky enough to try one out at the Pederson salon in Islington, London, at a discount price.

How the Keratin Brazilian Blow Dry works

Step 1) Hair is washed in Global Keratin Clarifying shampoo to remove any build-up of product

Step 2) After a rough blow dry (making sure the hair is 80% dry), the Global Keratin product is applied in sections, starting at the nape.

Step 3) The product is left in the hair for around 30 minutes to lock in all moisture. It is then straightened with exceptionally-hot straighteners. The roots of the hair are actually straightened 3 times for maximum results!

Step 4) The Keratin treatment needs to remain on the hair for 3 days – so you’re not allowed to wash your hair during this time.

Step 5) Wash your hair with salt-free shampoo and conditioner. This is really important as normal shampoo can strip out the treatment.

Step 6) Voila – glossy hair every time you wash!

Treatments start from £80 but can be as expensive as £220 in leading salons. Look out for discounts – is great for last-minute beauty deals. For more travel news don’t forget to follow me on Twitter!
