1. Cape Town
Cape Town is an essential stop for all backpackers visiting South Africa. Hike up Table Mountain, visit the infamous prison on Robbin Island, go cage diving with Great White sharks or dance ’til dawn on Long Street. Whatever you fancy, Cape Town is sure to deliver.

Get ready for breathtaking views, fabulous hiking trails and one of the prettiest hostels we’ve seen in South Africa. Trust us, this place is likely to capture your heart so get ready to extend your stay.
4. Victoria Bay

Think crashing waves, rugged cliffs and endless reams of blue sky. Hike up to The Heads, take a sunset boat cruise or stroll down to the harbour. If you’re lucky you might even see a whale!
If surfing’s your thing then you can’t miss Jeffreys Bay! The supertubes are legendary, the surf schools are intense and the atmosphere couldn’t get more laid back. Try and get there for the Billabong Surf Competition held every July.
Okay, so there’s not a great deal to see here BUT it is where you can book cheap safaris to Scotchia Game Reserve and Addo Elephant Park. Amazing.

8. Coffee Bay
The Wild Coast throws up all sorts of gems and Coffee Bay is one you can’t miss. Hike to the Hole in the Wall, grab a 2-hour surf lesson or enjoy sundowners on the cliffs. Need somewhere to stay? We have two words for you: Coffee Shack.
